Job Description

Advanced clerical work, which involves intermediately complex work methods in data entry, review, evaluation and retrieval as it relates to the facilities Classification System. Assessment of inmate incarceration elements utilized to facilitate placement and determine custody factors. Work is performed under general supervision and/or direction.

Position Duties

The tasks below represent the majority of time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Meet with inmates on a daily basis to conduct a personal history assessment.
  • Evaluates inmates based on an established criteria system to determine custody level, housing and program eligibility. Identifies inmate behavioral patterns.
  • Identifies, designates and notifies staff of high-risk inmates based on relevant factors.
  • Completes data entry and management of inmate grievances to include routing and dissemination.
  • Reviews arrest documents to determine if special factors exist (co-defendants, high-risk charges, juvenile arrests, etc.). Entry of pertinent information into the Jail Management System.
  • Generates, distributes and coordinates work detail schedules and schedule changes based on daily needs using established software.
  • Reviews and disseminates various lists: (inmate programs, confinement etc.).
  • Computes inmate Gain time pursuant to Florida Statutes and departmental policies utilizing the Jail Management System and Microsoft Excel software.
  • Coordinates and manages the formal inmate disciplinary process.
  • Sort, review, route and answer inmate request forms.
  • Answer telephones. Assist public via telephone and in person. Schedule appointments and relay information to proper departments.
  • Performs additional clerical support duties as assigned.
  • Regular, dependable and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of one (1) year administrative experience in a court or legal field is preferred.
  • Must be accurate in data entry and reading comprehension.
  • Ability to use Microsoft office programs proficiency in Excel is preferred.

Additional Information

Work is performed in an office environment, but employees may have contact with inmates during the course of normal work.

Work Schedule as follows:
One workweek is five days 0800-1430 Monday-Friday
Second workweek is four days schedule is either 0700-1700 or 0800-1800; Monday-Thursday.

During an emergency, the Sheriff will determine who is considered an emergency responder and whose work is necessary to maintain the operation of law enforcement and correctional facilities. This determination is subject to change based on staffing and the operational needs of the agency.
