Performs routine cleaning and upkeep within the tribal office, around the tribal grounds, medical and dental clinic, and other assigned areas. Performs unskilled maintenance tasks that are recurring, clear cut and basic in nature. Provides some work direction to custodial staff as assigned. Minimal supervision over all custodians. Work hours can change especially during special events such as: Summer Games, basketball tournaments, Pow-wow or at other times. May occasionally work longer hours when covering for others in the department.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Monday - Friday; 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM

JOB FUNCTIONS:

include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Accountable for the completions of assigned duties with a minimum level of supervision.
  2. Assists in orders and inventories for the Headquarter and Clinic custodial supplies.
  3. Cleans, disinfects, vacuums/sweeps, and mops all restrooms daily. Stocks restrooms with paper and other products as needed.
  4. Empties trash containers daily.
  5. Cleans break room daily. Stocks paper and coffee products as needed. Cleans out refrigerators as needed.
  6. Vacuums facility daily. Spot cleans carpet, walls, doors, and light switches as needed.
  7. Maintains gym floor and bleachers.
  8. Closes and secures tribal office and compound by locking doors, checking and closing windows and turning off lights.
  9. Cleans, disinfects, vacuums, sweeps and mops building daily.
  10. Checks windows and glass daily and cleans as needed.
  11. Cleans all conference rooms as needed.
  12. Informs supervisor when running low on cleaning supplies, paper products, etc.
  13. Dusts furniture, equipment, tops of doors, window ledges, counter tops, light fixtures, chairs, and tables and cleans door handles as needed.
  14. Vacuums and dusts offices when requested.
  15. Deep cleans kitchen, restrooms, general and common areas twice a year
  16. Performs snow removal. Sweeps and washes sidewalks. Picks up trash around the tribal grounds as needed.
  17. Assists in ensuring building security.
  18. Moves furniture and equipment; arranges tables and chairs, sets-up and tears down gym floor covering as needed.
  19. Performs minor maintenance and repair work, such as: changing filters, replacing light bulbs, painting, oiling motors, and hinges, checking, and changing oil and gas in equipment, replacing faucet washers and toilet tank floats, etc.
  20. Notifies supervisor when major repairs are needed.
  21. Takes trash to the dump as needed.
  22. Maintains and upkeeps equipment, tools and floor covering.
  23. Checks out tables, chairs, and equipment to staff and/or others as needed and follows up on their return.
  24. Receives and stocks, rotates supplies.
  25. Assists Receptionist with fleet maintenance as needed.
  26. Fills in for other Maintenance staff as needed.

Requirements

General Requirement:

  • Must be insurable through the Tribe’s vehicle insurance required.
  • Must pass a criminal and fingerprint background check according to P.L. 101-630 standards required.
  • Must pass a pre-employment alcohol/drug screening required.

Education & Experience:

  • None required

Licensing & Certification:

  • Must possess, maintain, and provide proof of a valid Driver’s License required.
  • Must obtain, maintain, and provide proof of a valid First Aid and CPR Certified within three (3) months of hire required.
  • Must obtain, maintain, and provide proof of OSHA 10 Certification within three (3) months of hire required.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of cleaning methods and supplies.
  • Knowledge of S.D.S.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to do sustained physical work.
  • Ability to make independent judgments which have minor impacts on the department.
