Job Title: Laboratory Director – Clinical Laboratory

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Director to oversee the administrative, operational, and technical management of a clinical laboratory. This role is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining high-quality laboratory testing standards, and leading continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership experience in a clinical laboratory environment and meet CLIA ’88 requirements for a laboratory supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide overall leadership and management of the clinical laboratory operations.
• Ensure full compliance with CLIA, CAP, and other applicable regulatory standards.
• Oversee laboratory quality assurance, testing accuracy, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Manage laboratory staff (approximately 20–25 FTEs across multiple shifts), including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
• Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure efficient laboratory workflows and timely test results.
• Monitor laboratory budgets, operational efficiency, and resource utilization.
• Ensure proper validation, maintenance, and operation of laboratory equipment and systems.
• Maintain accurate documentation and compliance with laboratory policies and procedures.

Systems & Technology:

• Laboratory Information System (LIS): Epic Beaker
• Specimen Collection & Documentation: Epic Rover
• Reference Lab Interfaces: SBMF (Pathology) and LabCorp (Clinical Pathology)

Instrumentation:

• Chemistry: Roche Cobas Pure integrated chemistry/immunoassay platform
• Hematology: Sysmex hematology analyzers
• Coagulation: Siemens coagulation systems
• Molecular / Rapid Testing: Cepheid GeneXpert
• Urinalysis: Clinitek automated urinalysis system
• Blood Bank: Gel card-based testing

Education & Qualifications:

Candidates must meet CLIA ’88 supervisory requirements with one of the following:

• Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of laboratory training or experience in high-complexity testing specialties, OR
• Master’s degree with 2+ years of laboratory training or experience in high-complexity testing specialties, OR
• MD / DO / DPM or PhD with certification in clinical pathology or at least 1 year of laboratory training or experience in high-complexity testing.

Experience Required:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
• At least 3 years of experience in microbiology and blood bank.
• Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience in laboratory operations.

Certifications:

• Certification as a Medical Technologist or equivalent through a recognized accrediting agency such as ASCP, AMT, NCA, or similar.
