Job Summary:

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) is responsible for independently performing high-volume blood bank testing, including type, screen, and crossmatch procedures, in a large acute care hospital setting. This role requires a minimum of 2 years of recent blood bank experience, proficiency with blood bank software, and the ability to work confidently during night shifts. The CLS supports trauma level I care and collaborates within a teaching hospital environment, ensuring accurate and timely laboratory results to aid patient care.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform blood bank testing including type, screen, and crossmatch on 30-50 samples daily.
  • Operate blood bank software and laboratory instrumentation such as Wellsky and Immucor.
  • Work independently during night shifts, managing all blood bank laboratory functions with confidence.
  • Maintain compliance with laboratory standards and hospital protocols.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to provide accurate and timely laboratory results supporting patient care.
  • Participate in rotating weekends and holiday shifts as required by unit needs.
  • Adhere to scheduling policies without exceptions for outside employment conflicts.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Minimum 2 years of recent blood bank experience within the last 2 years.
  • Active ASCP Blood Bank (ASCP-BB) certification.
  • Experience working in a large hospital setting with 300+ beds.
  • Proficiency with blood bank software and instrumentation.
  • Ability to work independently during night shifts.
  • Experience in trauma level I or teaching hospital preferred.
  • Must be able to work rotating weekends and holidays.
  • Must provide daytime Pacific Time interview availability.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Certification in Clinical Immunohematology Science.
  • Experience with Wellsky and Immucor laboratory instrumentation.
Special Considerations:
  • Start time is typically 2130 hours, may flex to 2000 hours as needed.
  • Must be a seasoned traveler in blood bank with no screening exceptions.
  • Work independently at night without on-call or floating requirements.
  • Scheduling requests due to outside employment will not be considered.
  • Facility allows one call-off per two-week pay period.
  • Radius for work location is within 50 miles.
Scheduling:
  • 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (4x10HR).
  • Rotating weekends and holidays are required.
  • Shift times primarily overnight starting at 2130, with possible adjustment to 2000.
