Responsibilities The Cloud System Administrator provides support for implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance on large clusters. Qualifications Required: Shall have demonstrated ability to work within a defined mission-focused team structure, follow SOPs, communicate effectively, accept constructive feedback, and receive technical guidance from senior-level technical resources. Shall have demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies and leverage senior-level resources to expand the current technical foundation using team structure. Shall have two (2) years of experience writing software scripts using scripting languages (bash, perl, or python). Shall have three (3) years of experience with Linux operating system fundamentals, including managing user and group accounts, LDAP, DHCP, DNS, and TFTP configurations. Shall have demonstrated experience with configuration management tools, including Puppet and SALT. Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics is highly desired and may be considered equivalent to two (2) years of experience. Hadoop/Cloud System Administrator Certification or comparable Cloud System/Service Certification is desired. Desired: Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting large-scale cloud computing systems (e.g., Hadoop, Cassandra, Scality, Swift, Gluster, Lustre, GPFS, Amazon S3) or other big data/HP computing technologies. Ability to work independently on complex tasks and mentor junior resources. Ability to plan, communicate, lead, and oversee complex tasks requiring cross-group interaction. Advanced knowledge of SSH tunneling and protocols, dynamic SOCKS proxies, and ssh-based tools (rsync, pdsh, pdcp, WinSCP). Understanding of end-to-end Linux PXE/Network provisioning, Anaconda Kickstart configurations, RAID utilities, TFTP images, and disk-detection scripts. Experience remotely accessing and troubleshooting systems (VNC, serial over LAN, IPMI, BIOS-level configuration). Understanding of corporate architecture as well as OpenSSL and Java keystore manipulation. Basic understanding of network concepts (VLANs, port-channel bonding, L2/L3 switch interactions). Experience troubleshooting commodity hardware platforms, including SGI/HP hardware (SGI J-series). Familiarity with load balancers for large-scale web services (e.g., HAProxy, Nginx), Kubernetes orchestration, and Docker images. Experience with log aggregation and search tools (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Filebeat, Grafana, rsyslog). Education & Certifications Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics is highly desired and may be equivalent to two (2) years of experience. Hadoop/Cloud System Administrator Certification or comparable Cloud System/Service Certification is desired. Compensation & Benefits The proposed salary range for this position in Maryland is $87,000 to $192,000. Final salary will be determined based on various factors.
