Position Summary The CMM Programmer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and executing CMM inspection programs to support new product development, incoming inspection, in process verification, and final release of precision medical device components. This role ensures dimensional compliance to engineering specifications and regulatory requirements, with a primary focus on Zeiss CMM systems using Calypso software. Key Responsibilities CMM Programming & Inspection Develop, validate, and maintain Calypso CMM programs for complex components, assemblies, and fixtures. Perform first article, in process, and final inspections using Zeiss CMM equipment. Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and product specifications to ensure accurate measurement strategies. Analyze dimensional data and generate clear, traceable inspection reports for engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams. Troubleshoot measurement issues, optimize probing strategies, and improve program efficiency. Quality & Compliance Ensure all inspection activities comply with ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR Part 820, and internal QMS requirements. Support nonconformance investigations with dimensional analysis and root cause insights. Collaborate with Quality Engineering to develop and refine control plans, inspection methods, and measurement documentation. Maintain calibration and verification routines for CMM equipment and related metrology tools. Cross Functional Collaboration Partner with Manufacturing, R&D, and Supplier Quality to resolve dimensional issues and improve manufacturability. Support new product introduction (NPI) by developing inspection strategies and contributing to DFM / DFA discussions. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to metrology, automation, and inspection throughput. Required Qualifications Minimum 3 5 years of experience in dimensional inspection or metrology within a medical device or precision manufacturing environment. Proficiency in Zeiss Calypso CMM programming (non negotiable). Strong understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and ability to interpret complex engineering drawings. Hands on experience with precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, etc.). Ability to analyze large data sets and communicate findings clearly to technical and non technical stakeholders. Working knowledge of statistical tools (SPC, Gage R&R, capability studies). Preferred Qualifications Experience with orthopedic implants, instruments, or other tight tolerance medical components. Familiarity with CAD models (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar). Experience with additional metrology systems (vision systems, laser scanners, surface measurement tools). Understanding of manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, grinding, polishing, or additive manufacturing. Background supporting validation activities (IQ / OQ / PQ) for inspection methods or equipment.
