Job Summary

The CNC Burn Table Operator/ Machine Operator is responsible for safely and accurately cutting materials using plasma or oxy/gas. The Burn Table Operator will also handle materials, count parts, operate computer programs, and ensure safe and efficient operation of the work area. The position requires cross training on other machines like saws and press brakes.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Accurately align torches, load drills and run cnc programs to cut steel parts.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure, and/ or calipers.
  • Good working knowledge of steel grades, thicknesses, fractions and their decimal equivalents
  • Ability to accurately read instructions or press drawings, measures, holds, and positions materials
  • Ability to read and understand parts lists to cut correct number of parts to the required specification
  • Ability to safely operate equipment to produce parts for the production process
  • Ability to safely and properly operate an overhead crane or forklift to position heavy materials
  • Inspects finished parts for quality and accuracy and informs supervisor of any non-conformities
  • Maintain and use all required personal protective equipment as outlined in the Diamond Z Safety Manual
  • Understands and follows all Diamond Z safety policies and procedures
  • Perform other tasks as assigned or needed
  • Maintains a positive attitude and works well with others
  • Assists with special projects as assigned by supervisor
  • Marks specific parts for identification

Requirements

  • Experience in metal cutting using a variety of methods
  • Experience in other metal working machines and general metal fabrication.
  • Experience in cutting different material thicknesses
  • Some machining or drill/tap knowledge helpful
  • Ability to reach over and around objects to lift, move, or place objects or materials in designated locations
  • Ability to understand written or verbal instructions, operate a tape measure, operate computer software, and understand the difference between various types of steel
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently
  • Ability to occasionally lift objects weighing over 50 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to safely work on raised platforms, climb stairs or ladders, and climb off equipment or ladders
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, push, pull, and reach both above and below shoulder height
  • Ability to handle, place, manipulate, operate, stack, and connect equipment and materials through fine and basic hand skills
  • Ability to verbally communicate with coworkers and supervisors in a safe and productive manner
  • Ability to work extended shifts to meet business demands as needed
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen

Working Conditions

Temperature and humidity fluctuations typical of standard outdoor conditions. The climate control within the facilities is somewhat restricted. Occasional outdoor work may be necessary.

  • Air contaminates such as smoke and dust may be present but are below the recognized TLV
  • The presence of electrical and compressed air sources
  • The presence of bottled gas and oxygen
  • The presence of chemicals
  • The presence of moving equipment, lift trucks, or other vehicles
  • Exposure to flying particles, hot or molten metal
  • Exposure to light radiation from welding or plasma cutting
  • Exposure to sharp edges and points on steel and abrasive tools
  • Exposure to falling or rolling steel
