CNC Machine Operator

Location: Wethersfield, CT
Reports To: Branch Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Machine Operator to join a Job Shop Fabrication and Machining operation. This role is responsible for machining ductile and steel pipe, including threading, fitting flanges, and operating manual machine tools such as lathes and threaders. The position also involves crane operation to move pipe in and out of machining centers.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain personal safety and promote the safety of team members
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures
  • Wear required PPE, including steel-toed boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection
  • Keep assigned work areas clean and organized
  • Identify fabrication requirements for each piece of pipe
  • Load, center, and secure pipe into machines for processing
  • Machine tapered threads and verify measurements such as thread depth and taper
  • Test flange fit and ensure proper threading
  • Apply adhesive and use machines to tighten flanges onto pipe
  • Operate lathes to flush-fit flanges onto pipe faces
  • Move finished pipe to the next processing stage
  • Work with pipe sizes ranging from 3” to 6” in diameter and lengths from 4 inches to 18 feet
  • Meet quality standards and production output goals
  • Support team members and assist across multiple machines as needed


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous machinery or manufacturing experience preferred
  • Strong math skills with the ability to read tape measures and micrometers
  • Basic understanding of machining processes
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Positive attitude and team-oriented mindset


Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Regular standing, walking, and use of hands to operate tools and controls
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English
  • Occasional bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching
  • Lift up to 10 lbs regularly, 25 lbs frequently, and 50 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to work in dust, fumes, loud environments, and varying weather conditions
  • Overtime and extended hours may be required
  • Vision requirements include close vision, depth perception, and color distinction
  • Ability to operate a forklift and obtain certification
