Job Scope and Skill Set: CNC programmer

The CNC Programmer is responsible for the development and successful execution of all CNC programs. They must have the ability to write advanced MasterCAM lathe, mill, and 5-axis programs. The CNC Programmer will work collaboratively with both the Engineering and Machining/Spinning Departments to produce product in spec, on time, and on budget. They must clearly develop and communicate reliable solutions for technical issues related to various new and existing machining processes. They are responsible for the programming, setup, and operation of all CNC equipment to produce successful first pieces and meet daily production and quality requirements.

Responsibilities also include the management of all lathe, mill, and 5-axis cutting tools; and the evaluation and improvement of new and existing CNC equipment and manufacturing methods/operations.

Duties and Areas of Responsibility:

  • Write advanced 2D lathe, 2D mill, 3D mill, and 5-axis MasterCAM programs.
  • Assist and train operators with the setup and operation of various CNC manufacturing processes.
  • Successfully complete and inspect first piece run for CNC operations to ensure programs are accurate to produce parts to spec.
  • Monitor, control, and refurbish cutting tools for CNC lathes, mills, and 5-axis machines.
  • Analyze and understand the unique goals and work flow of each project and implement programs for production methods to achieve compliant products.
  • Complete tasks on time to ensure schedules are met.
  • Collaboratively assist in the design and improvement of machining fixtures and methods for new and existing jobs.
  • Maintain, organize, and control programs for all CNC machines.
  • Maintain, update, and back-up all CNC programs and software to stay up to date with new and revised processes.
