Position Overview
Responsible for overseeing the maintenance, upkeep, and proper operation of 5–axis milling machines and all mill‑room tools and equipment. Utilizes knowledge and experience in mill operations to lead quality‑improvement projects, research material and tool upgrades, and document procedures.
Responsibilities
Communicate daily with the mill supervisor and floor technicians to guide set‑up and monitor progress of new projects.
Provide skid sizes for parts to be milled and effectively coordinate with suppliers and customers.
Model basic CAD parts to make them mill‑ready.
Assess master material thickness and machine capabilities to determine proper tool selection and feeds/speeds.
Write planer mill tool paths for foam stack‑ups.
Analyze part geometry and clearances to write efficient 3‑axis and 5‑axis tool paths.
Assist the supervisor in sequencing all mill‑room operations to meet schedules and budgets.
Utilize and maintain machine‑tool simulation software.
Operate and troubleshoot Par XR 225 5‑axis gantry mill with Par controller and CMS 5‑axis gantry mill with FANUC controller.
Perform mill‑alignment procedures for Par and CMS 5‑axis gantry mills.
Maintain and retrieve CAD files in the Teamcenter environment.
Follow proper procedures for safe handling of hazardous wastes generated during manufacturing.
Provide technical expertise required to operate and upkeep the Par and CMS milling machines.
Resolve milling‑machine issues (mechanical, electrical, processor, or software related) by applying experience or by contacting the manufacturer’s service department.
Ensure routine preventative maintenance is performed on milling machines and all other mill‑room equipment.
Assist and improve the cross‑training initiative by teaching and mentoring mill technicians.
Lead mill efforts in optimizing master quality by researching new materials, evaluating tools, and documenting best practices.
Propose, develop, and implement process improvements to meet safety, quality, schedule, and budget goals.
Act as liaison between the mill, product tooling, and material science when testing new master‑construction methodologies.
Assist in mill schedule planning, mill‑package configuration, and schedule‑change/forecast updates.
Assist with documentation of supplies, S&E, labor, and material tracking.
Possess the ability to work with new products and problems as they arise.
Possess knowledge of company policies and procedures and ensure they are followed.
Promote safe work habits and maintain a clean work area through 5‑S initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Associate’s Degree in Graphic Engineering with CAD certificate and/or training in drafting or technical illustration.
Marine industry experience highly recommended.
Proficient in Unigraphics manufacturing software, Unigraphics Machine‑tool builder, simulation, or Post Builder.
Strong Unigraphics, free‑form, and feature‑modeling skills.
Lean Six Sigma Black Belt preferred.
Benefits
Base pay range: $47,000 – $70,000, variable based on qualifications and business needs. Eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
