POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Lead CNC Programmer, this position will be responsible for generating CNC Programs, fixturing, set-ups and job estimation for new product development & on-going production orders. As outlined below, this self-motivated position requires knowledge and understanding of programming & machining. This position will be required to think “outside the box” to overcome obstacles & challenges to achieve optimal performance to ensure on-time delivery commitments are met.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ability to read, write & develop CNC programs using Mastercam software to meet customer specifications;
  • Perform machining process development & optimization (part setup/fixturing, machining strategy/order of operations, tool selection speed/feed process parameter selection) to ensure committed dates;
  • Incorporate required design changes per customer driven changes, technical performance improvements and improved manufacturability;
  • Work with Machining & Quality departments to monitor the quality of output to identify process improvement opportunities; (reduced machining/setup time, improved part quality, reduced manufacturing risks);
  • Heavy emphasis on fixture design and build as well as providing best practices involving tooling and fixturing to maximize production;
  • Generate models and shop drawings utilizing CAD Software;
  • Understand and interpret solid modeling for quoting capabilities;
  • Interface directly and cohesively with Project Management team regarding customer RFQ’s and drawing specifications to identify material requirements, job costing, building, and routing of BOMs;
  • Evaluate customers’ product design and specifications to create quotes based on costs of selected raw materials & manufacturing processes;
  • Work directly with Purchasing to ensure required machining material & tooling is identified and ordered within the scope of requirements;
  • Run production on machines as needed to meet customer ship dates and critical project schedules;
  • Assist with operator training and mentoring as needed;
  • Adhere to Employee’s responsibilities outlined in Cygnus’ Health & Safety Policy.

Required Qualifications & Competencies:

  • A minimum of 5 years required of programming experience using programming software (i.e., Mastercam, Gibbs, etc.) in a high-precision machining environment and capable of learning other specialized software;
  • Machining Journeyperson papers preferred or minimum of 5 years of skilled machining required;
  • Independently set-up CNC machines required;
  • Highly proficient interpreting blueprints with GD&T tolerancing and demonstrate high proficiency with G & M codes;
  • Familiarity with ERP functionality, especially Made To Manage (M2M), is preferred;
  • Estimating and quoting experience preferred;
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects & deadlines;
  • A goal-oriented, success-driven attitude;
  • Ability to work off peak hours and able to work up to 10 hours/week overtime as needed;
  • Comfortable with communicating and working in a team environment required;
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office required;
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds;
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing shop environment (including hot, cold and/or noisy areas);
  • Frequent hand to finger, handle, feel objects & tools, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking and hearing;
  • Physically submit to periodic drug tests (employment is contingent upon favorable results).
