POSITION SUMMARY

The University of Georgia's College Advising Corps advisers work in underserved high schools throughout Georgia to increase the number of low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented students who attend and complete higher education.

We help students find their way to college by placing well-trained, recent college graduates in high schools to work one-on-one with students as they navigate the complex college admissions process, including researching college options, completing applications, and applying for financial aid.

This is a 2-year maximum service position, in which the advisers receive yearly education awards ($7,395) in addition to their employment salary and benefits. Advisers also receive year-round graduate school and career professional development and training.

REQUIREMENTS

Advisers should have earned a Bachelors degree by July 2024 and should have graduated from high school between 2018 and 2021.

Advisers should have a strong desire to serve and they should work well with a wide variety of populations.o be successful in the role of college adviser, the following skills are necessary:

Interpersonal Skills: Ability to collaborate effectively with others to achieve goals.
Organization Skills: Ability to meet deadlines, plan events, and keep track of data and records.
Communication Skills: Ability to speak persuasively and tactfully, write professionally, and create multi-media texts such as flyers, presentations, and websites.
Problem-solving Skills: Ability to surmount challenges and solve problems creatively, ethically, and diplomatically as they help students navigate the college admissions process.

SCHEDULE

Advisers work regular, full-time hours during the school year, following the high
school/site supervisors schedule. Advisers will begin service in their assigned
schools in August 2024 following summer training at UGA during the month of July,
and work until May 31, 2025. Adviser are strongly encouraged to serve 2 years at their school site, however contract renewal is based upon adviser performance in their first-year.

SALARY

$35,000.00/year. Subject to increase for the 24-25 SY.

Athens-Clarke County Schools, Atlanta Public Schools, Colquitt County, Grady County, Henry County, Newton County, Rockdale County, Social Circle Schools and Walton County.
