Overview

Provide courteous and professional services to neighbors in need. This position will work with staff members and volunteers to ensure neighbors receive food, clothing, bus passes, hygiene products and store vouchers as needed. Additional responsibilities will include unloading food items off trucks along with organizing and storing items in the food pantry.

Full Job Description

We are looking for reliable, hardworking, and enthusiastic individuals to join our Austin team in the Community Service / Food Pantry area. This position is part-time requiring 30 hours per week.

The Community Outreach Associate is responsible for cheerfully greeting neighbors and assessing their needs and providing help. The neighbor will fill out and provide an intake sheet that will guide you to what their needs are. This information will then be entered into a database. Additional duties require unloading food off a truck and moving it into the food pantry area, organizing and storing food items. This will require lifting items of approximately 50 pounds. This position requires you to work indoors and outdoors in the cold and the heat. Must have flexibility to work some Mondays if required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Community Outreach Associate:

Present a professional, clean appearance and provide courteous service to all neighbors and guest in need.

Offer exceptional customer service to neighbors needing help.

Responds quickly to neighbors in need.

  • Ability and experience in driving a 16' box truck

Unloading items from trucks.

Maintain an even flow of food entering the pantry.

Assist the Community Outreach Coordinator in keeping the work area safe, clean, and organized.

Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment with a team of staff and volunteers.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Associate degree (preferred), High School diploma or GED

Previous experience working in community health services (preferred). Some training will be required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of:

Mathematics and reading comprehension (Intermediate level).

Oral and written communication to wide and varied audiences.

Customer service in a friendly and helpful manner.

Easily follows directions.

  • Ability and experience in driving a 16' box truck

Work on multiple projects at once in a fast-paced environment.

Attention to detail.

Ability to use a computer to input data.

Work a flexible schedule if required.

English proficiency is required bilingual is a plus.

Spanish proficiency is preferred.

Physical:

The employee is continuously standing and walking, frequently bending and twisting, reaching above shoulders with hands and arms, use of dolly, and lifting boxes of food up to 50 pounds.

Occasionally work near moving mechanical parts.

Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions.

Reliability & Cheerfulness:

High level of professionalism and confidentiality when interacting with team members and neighbors in need.

Ability to remain calm and focused during stressful situations.

Compensation:

Part-Time - $15.00 an hour.

30 hours per week.

Schedule:

Tuesday through Saturday work schedule.

Some Mondays hours as needed.

COVID-19 considerations:

Face covering is optional at this time. Frequent cleaning of areas.
