COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICER (WT: STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT DISPATCHER) Date: Jul 7, 2026 Requisition No: 879038 Agency: Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle Location: Tallahassee, FL The Organization The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) provides highway safety and security through excellence in service, education, and enforcement. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a division of FLHSMV, is a nationally accredited state law enforcement agency charged with enforcing Florida laws and ensuring the safety of motorists. FHP operates seven Regional Communication Centers (RCC), each located in a major metropolitan area, including the Tallahassee RCC. These state‑of‑the‑art facilities operate 24/7 to provide professional dispatch and communication support services for FHP and other state law‑enforcement agencies. Duties and Responsibilities Respond to emergency and non‑emergency calls. Dispatch Troopers and other state law‑enforcement officers. Monitor and respond to radio and data communications traffic. Coordinate efforts between FHP and other agencies (e.g., DOT after crash incidents). Receive, relay, and document call/incident details, law‑enforcement activity, and other information. WHY APPLY? Reasoning, Critical Thinking, and Judgment – Evaluate large volumes of information and make sound decisions. Multi‑tasking – Handle multiple calls simultaneously and perform multiple related activities. Discretion and Integrity – Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Computer and Equipment Skills – Operate radio, multi‑line phone, and CAD systems. Training Provided New dispatchers participate in a four‑month training program covering orientation, call taking, radio usage, and shadowing, culminating in a 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator (PST) certification. Job Related Requirements Willing and able to work rotating days and shifts, including weekends and holidays. Must be 18 years of age or older. High school diploma or GED required. Subject to a Level 2 background, CJIS and SLERS clearance, including FBI fingerprint check. Must complete drug screening, medical, and psychological examination.
