CARFAIR - COMPOSITE OPERATOR (STARTING $19.28)

Carfair Composites is a leader in fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) design and composites technology and has dedicated team members located in facilities between Winnipeg, MB (Canada), St. Cloud, MN (USA), and Anniston, AL (USA), Wausaukee, WI (USA) and Gillett, WI (USA).

POSITION SUMMARY

The Composite Operator classification consists of all the manufacturing positions, excluding Paint, Gel and Buff Back Final Finish. All Composite Operators will be cross trained in multiple functions and will be utilized in those functions throughout the facility, based on customer demand.
 
 WHAT YOU WILL DO:

 The following positions fall under the Composite Operator classification and list a small portion of the duties performed in those positions:

LRTM:

  • Ensure proper waxing and care of molds/back shells (tape test every time)
  • Use proper loading techniques to ensure material is placed correctly prior to injection
  • Install the back shell without the glass falling
  • Properly use the injection machine – automatic or manual systems
  • Ensure proper vacuum operation; check/detect/correct leaks

 TRIM:

  • Properly inspect, use and care for cutting tools
  • Properly seat part in fixture and clamp in correct areas for proper tightness
  • Cut to scribe line
  • Read ruler
  • Use Go/No Go Gauges

 LAMINATION:

  • Properly assemble and disassemble/clean the lamination gun
  • Chop or hand lay material in an even coat not using too much or too little resin
  • Select proper rollers and roll out all air pockets
  • Keep resin and catalyst filled
  • Identify defects and follow proper procedure for non-conformance

 ASSEMBLY:

  • Read route card to determine what hardware and how many are used. 
  • Properly set part before install.
  • Grind hardware location and, if needed, hardware without grinding powder coat.
  • Install hardware with proper fixtures using a plexus gun.

SANDABLE FINAL FINISH:

  • Know/use the proper tools and equipment to ensure the part meets the customer’s specifications
  • Know/use the correct materials for repairing/finishing parts per the route card
  • Accurately use all gauges, fixtures and locators related to the job
  • Use proper procedure/techniques when spraying gel over defects
  • Inspect parts at every stage of the process to identify defects and correct immediately

 MATERIAL CUTTING:

  • Know all tools and equipment related to position and what to use to replicate customer specifications.
  • Correctly identifies material to use.
  • Accurately use all gauges, fixtures, and locators related to position.
  • Accurately trace patterns and cut on pattern lines.
  • Identify & locate correct pattern required. 

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Prior experience in composites or similar industry preferred
  • Strong problem-solving ability including troubleshooting and resolving issues
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to reach and bend on a consistent basis
  • Must be able t occasionally lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-task production environment
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment
  • Ability to work in harmony with others while maintaining a positive and professional attitude with overall success in mind
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and deal with issues logically and within the company guidelines
  • Available for overtime as needed
