Role: Computerized Tomography Technologist

Location: Atlanta, GA
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collects pertinent medical information and reviews physician's order to identify reason for examination and potential contraindications
- Explains procedure to patient and ensures consent form is signed if required for examination.
- Positions patient, administers oral or intravenous contrast as required.
- Monitors patient reaction and responds to adverse reactions with emergency procedures as necessary.
- Selects equipment parameters and logs pertinent information.
- Performs scanning procedure.
- Modifies parameters as required to improve visualization of desired anatomy.
- May assist physician with biopsy and aspiration procedures, practicing sterile technique as required.
- Sets up sterile trays with all supplies and instruments required for procedures.
- Organizes images, performs the scan and transfers exam to PACS system.
- Provides assistance with transportation of patients to and from Emergency Room and Inpatient areas.
- Responsible for ensuring communication to radiologist regarding Acute Stroke patients and certifying compliance with Acute Stroke protocols.
- Enters patient charges into computer.
- Performs minor maintenance and repairs on Computerized Tomography (CT) equipment.
- Refers other problems to the Computerized Tomography (CT) Supervisor.
- Assists in orienting and training personnel as necessary.
- Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury accident to Manager.
Additional Duties/Responsibilities:
- In addition to the duties above, the CT/Diagnostic Tech have the following job responsibilities:
- Performs myelograms, venograms, arthrograms, and other studies requiring intravenous or Sudbury injection of contrast medium.
- Assists physicians with studies.
- Delivers intravenous medication under direct supervision of physicians.
- Regularly performs the duties and responsibilities of the Radiologic Technologist.
- Performs routine radiographic examinations in accordance with specific operating instructions and safety standards.
- Assesses patient condition throughout procedure and observes for adverse reactions.
- Recognizes and responds to emergency situations according to departmental procedures. Must be able to work in a team environment.
- May be asked to work in another department as needs dictate.
Skills and Certifications [note: bold skills and certification are required]
- Graduate of accredited school of Radiologic Technology
- Registered CT Technologist from ARRT (CT) or NMTCB (CT)
- Certified in cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- Registry eligible must be registered as a CT technologist within 6 months of start date.
- Ability to deal tactfully and pleasantly with various types of patients, visitors, physicians.
- Ability to insert intravenous catheter.
- Basic knowledge of cross sectional anatomy.
