Job Description

MATRIX is seeking an experienced and proactive Construction Manager to lead the planning and execution of hydro-electric related construction projects. This role is responsible for developing detailed construction plans, coordinating closely with engineering teams, and making critical construction decisions before and during project execution to ensure safety, efficiency, and quality.


DURATION: 6 months with possible extension

LOCATION: Pike Island Lock and Dam which is the fifth lock and dam on the Ohio River, located in Yorkville, Ohio 84 miles downstream of Pittsburgh


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBLITIES:

Construction Planning

  • Develop comprehensive construction plans, schedules, and methodologies for hydro infrastructure projects
  • Identify resource requirements, sequencing, and risk factors ahead of construction
  • Review design documents and provide constructability input during pre-construction phases

Engineering Coordination

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to align design intent with field execution
  • Resolve design conflicts and provide practical construction solutions
  • Ensure all construction activities comply with engineering specifications and standards

Project Execution & Decision-Making

  • Lead field operations and oversee day-to-day construction activities
  • Make key construction decisions in real time to address site conditions, delays, or unforeseen challenges
  • Adjust plans proactively to maintain schedule, budget, and safety targets

Stakeholder Management

  • Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Communicate project updates, risks, and solutions to internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure alignment across all project teams

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with all regulatory and environmental requirements
  • Promote a strong safety culture across all construction activities

Quality Control

  • Monitor construction quality and ensure adherence to project specifications
  • Conduct inspections and implement corrective actions as needed


QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • 5+ years of construction management experience, preferably in infrastructure, energy, or hydro projects
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, scheduling, and project delivery
  • Proven ability to make sound decisions in dynamic field environments
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills
  • Familiarity with relevant safety and regulatory standards


PREFERRED:

  • Experience with hydroelectric or water infrastructure projects
  • Proficiency in construction management software and scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera, MS Project)
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities
