Construction Project Estimator Apply
Job Description
Darland Construction Co. is looking for a highly motivated construction Project Estimator with a minimum of 2 years of experience in construction estimating. The Project Estimator is responsible for developing and presenting accurate estimates based on preliminary and/or final drawings.
Responsibilities
- Successfully utilize estimating software for the completion of estimates (e.g. Excel, On-Screen Takeoff).
- Read, understand, and utilize mechanical, electrical, civil, structural and architectural drawings as key components of the estimating process.
- Identify scope of work, perform quantity takeoffs, and prepare cost estimates from various levels of design.
- Develop conceptual cost estimates for projects in planning and then refine as design progresses.
- Document design and cost changes throughout the preconstruction process.
- Solicit quotations from material vendors and subcontractors, evaluate responses and make recommendations.
- Quality proposal writing and presentations, when required, to describe the proposed solution and respond to requirements. Work with Director of Preconstruction in responding to client RFPs. This could include prepping for and interviewing as part of the Darland team on a proposed project.
- Investigate and develop innovative value-engineering ideas for completing projects to enhance projects effectiveness and overall financial benefits to all parties.
- Successful project turnover and continued involvement with the companys project management team.
- Work with minimal direction, manage time to meet tight project schedule deadlines and successfully complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
Working Conditions
The majority of the work is completed within an office environment. Periodic visits will be required to potential and active project sites.
Desired Skills & Experience
- BS in Construction Management, Engineering or related field is preferred.
- 3-5 years of commercial construction experience including a combination of estimating (two years minimum); and project engineering and/or project supervision/management.
- Able to make decisions under tight deadlines.
- Able to organize, plan and manage multiple activities to accomplish desired results.
- Able to participate in project interviews if necessary.
- Exhibit commitment to quality by evaluating estimating processes, making necessary changes and meeting/exceeding internal and external customer expectations.
- Computer skills: proficiency using Word, Excel, Outlook and estimating software.
- Act in a manner of integrity that shows support for the company, its values, and the employees, while maintaining constant focus on meeting/exceeding customer requirements and expectations.
