What We Do:

SMK Services, Inc. (SMK) is a Construction Management and Engineering services consultancy based in Belmont, Massachusetts. Our client base spans from Public Agencies, Professional Engineering firms, General Contractors, to Subcontractors. We currently provide services in Project Management, Scheduling, Engineering Support, Construction Estimating, Claims Analysis and Inspectional Services. With a growing customer base and an expanding list of services provided, SMK is currently seeking a Scheduler to join our team in the Greater Boston Area.

The Role:

Along with the Estimator, the Scheduler will be responsible for managing a shared scheduling/estimating database. The Scheduler will review and record scheduling updates to select government agency project controls manuals and communicate changes to the wider SMK team. The Scheduler will also maintain the SMK company-wide projects schedule with help from the Project Manager(s).

In addition to SMKs internal tasks, the Scheduler will also have external responsibilities when working for clients in the design and construction phases of a project. In the design phase, the Scheduler will work closely with the SMK Project Manager, Estimator, and Subject Matter Experts to deliver both engineering design and construction Contract Time Determination (CTD) schedules. The CTD schedules will be developed in lockstep with the Construction Cost Estimating (CCE) and constructability assessment efforts.

During the construction phase, the Scheduler will work closely with the SMK and client project teams to review contractor baseline schedules, schedule updates, Time Impact Analyses (TIA), and acceleration schedules for contract compliance, sequencing logic, verification of actualized dates, appropriateness of resource and cost loading, assessment of durations, delay assessment, etc. The Scheduler will also assist the Project Manager and Estimator in studying delays, recommending solutions, and supporting the evaluation of changes and claims by the contractor.

Responsibilities:

In this role you will be responsible for carrying out a variety of tasks. Some core responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and maintain SMKs scheduling and estimating database(s) in coordination with the SMK Estimator(s).
  • Develop, update, and maintain design and CTD schedules in accordance with the clients scheduling procedures and industry standards.
  • Review contractor schedule submissions for compliance with contract requirements and scheduling standards for technical issues and work with SMK project team to finalize schedule reviews. This includes the review of baseline and re-baseline schedules, monthly schedule updates, TIAs, and acceleration schedules.
  • Evaluate schedule progress and trends and provide improvement recommendations to SMK project management team.
  • Update and maintain design schedules monthly, perform analysis, and prepare reports for clients.
  • Work with the designers project management team to verify cost and schedule information for design schedules.
  • Attend client progress and scheduling meetings to provide/present updates on schedule deliverables.
  • Support the project management team in maintaining and updating the SMK company-wide project schedule.

Key Attributes:

  • An intuitive knowledge and ability to quickly understand principles of construction and contractor means and methods.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop written reports, charts, and graphs to support and present analyses.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of scheduling experience.
  • Valid drivers license and access to a personal vehicle.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
  • Ability to pass background checks as required.
