For 30 years, Home Builders Foundation has enabled individuals with disabilities and their families to live more independent, elevated lives. Our dedicated staff is passionate about expanding access, safety and comfort for the differently abled. We work closely with skilled volunteers and collaborative partners to come together to create home modifications that empower greater access, reinforce safety and equip recipients the ability to tackle everyday tasks. Our goal is to continue to build upon our experience and expand how our services can better elevate lives for those in need.
This hands-on, field-based position of Construction Technician (CT) is responsible for completing many projects for HBF clients. Basic one-day projects include installing grab bars, railings, hinges, temporary ramps, and setting plumbing fixtures. Hands on functions within larger projects include bathrooms starts to finish (demolition, installing drywall, setting tile, completing trim work, and painting), ramps (including leading volunteers to build the ramp), flooring, and more.
The CT will also be responsible for working with HBFs staff Superintendent to ensure compliance during and when closing out the projects with each client including, but not limited to permitting, punch list, inspections, and warranty.
Success in this role will be achieved by completing a large number of work items and projects, at a high quality, in a specified amount of time, resulting in satisfied contractors and clients.
Essential Job Duties (including, but not limited to): Project Delivery & Execution
- Personally completes assigned projects for HBF clients
- Respects and values the clients needs and wishes, and communicates with them regularly
o Upon completion, informs and educates client of proper use of completed work items
Working with HBFs Operations Director and/or Field Supervisor, completes the assigned project in a timely and accurate manner including-
o budget compliance
o in-kind material coordination
o permits process completion
o construction activities
o inspection
o warranty process
Adjusts to unforeseen conditions on the projects
Works well with third-party inspectors
Works in a clean, safe and quiet manner
Properly uses, maintains and stores HBF tools
Other Duties & Expectations:
Promotes the mission and vision of Home Builders Foundation
Provides regular updates to the Operations Director and/or Field Supervisor on project activities and impacts
Adjusts to an ever changing, fast-paced, and challenging work environment
Contributes to staff meetings, and supports the achievement of staff and organizational goals. Establishes and maintains a collaborative working relationship with fellow team members
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience:
Required:
3-5 years in building/remodeling industry with contacts in multiple companies
3-5 years of building industry project management experience
3-5 years of hands on building, ideally within several trades
Experience in one or more remodeling trades (preferred tile, trim carpentry, drywall, HVAC, plumbing, electrical,)
Residential licenses in multiple jurisdictions
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
Knows good workmanship
Works well within a prescribed budget
Can lead volunteers in respectful and engaging manner
Accepts objective feedback, repairs issues, and learns from input
Ability to work with all levels of the organization
Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and handle several projects simultaneously
Proficient in English
Reliable transportation and valid drivers license
Preferred:
5+ years in building/remodeling industry with significant contacts in multiple companies
- Experience in one or more remodeling trades i.e. tile, trim carpentry, drywall, HVAC, plumbing, electrical
5+ years of hands on building, ideally within several trades
OSHA, CLIPPS, and CAPS certification (already received or willing to complete upon hiring) and knowledge/ acceptance of best practices for construction related to people with disabilities/ aging in place
Ties to and/or currently living in Denver metro area
Experience with a non-profit
Strong oral and written skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office and donor management software
Proficient in English and Spanish
Physical/Mental Demands & Environment:
Must be able to meet local travel requirements
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Must have reliable transportation and ability to haul materials
Must have at least basic tools (saws, drills, hammers, etc.)
Education:
High School Diploma or GED
