Overview:
A fast-growing, family-owned wholesale building materials supplier is seeking a hands-on Controller / Accounting Manager to oversee and evolve its accounting and cash management functions.
The Role
This role is central to the company’s financial health and future growth. You will work closely with ownership, banking partners, external accountants, vendors, and internal team members to ensure accurate financial operations and responsible stewardship of company resources.
The position is fully on-site and suited to someone who thrives in a relationship-driven, product-based construction supply environment and enjoys being directly involved in day-to-day financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee daily accounting operations, including cash flow management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activity.
Monitor company cash position and budgets to ensure accurate and timely payments.
Manage vendor payments, ACH transactions, customer receipts, and application of incoming payments.
Review invoices, resolve billing discrepancies, and support invoicing and collections when required.
Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance, including accurate tracking and timely remittance of sales/use tax.
Liaise regularly with ownership, banks, external accountants, vendors, and customers to maintain clear communication and financial transparency.
Support ongoing refinement of accounting processes, reporting, and systems as the business scales.
Requirements:
Proven experience in accounting or bookkeeping, ideally within construction, building materials, wholesale distribution, or another product-based environment.
Strong working knowledge of accounting systems (QuickBooks experience preferred).
Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Clear, professional communicator who builds trust with internal and external stakeholders.
Comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with ownership and internal team members.
Professional, polished demeanor suited to a close-knit, values-driven business environment.
Willingness to work primarily on-site and engage directly with daily financial operations.
Qualifications:
3+ years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related financial role.
Solid understanding of core accounting principles, including AP/AR, cash flow management, reconciliations, and monthly sales/use tax remittances.
Experience paying vendors, processing ACH transactions, reconciling accounts, and applying customer payments.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate financial records.
High level of integrity, discretion, and accountability when handling sensitive financial information.
