Controller duties and responsibilities

The overall focus of a Controller’s job duties is to ensure accounting departments perform their functions efficiently and the organization has reliable financial reports. Strong NetSuite experience is required for this role.

DUTIES:

• Oversee all general accounting activities, including month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies, procedures, and controls.
• Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and management reports.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
• Utilize NetSuite, including budgeting and planning modules, for financial reporting and analysis.
• Partner closely with the CFO and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Review, mentor, and provide guidance to accounting staff as needed.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors and support audit activities.
• Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes, systems, and internal controls.
• Support ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as requested by the CFO.

SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Public accounting background required (Big 4 preferred but not required).
• Combination of public accounting and corporate accounting experience.
• Prior experience at the Accounting Manager, Senior Accounting Manager, or Controller level preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• CPA preferred
• Strong working knowledge of NetSuite.
• Solid GAAP and general accounting expertise.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to succeed in a hands-on, fully on-site role.
