ControllerVersova is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations for its Richlawn Turf Food fertilizer and composting company in Platteville, Colorado. The Controller is a key member of the local accounting and operations teams. This role is responsible for delivering accurate financial data and results for company operations, maintaining accounting policies and controls, and assisting with their execution. The position involves providing timely analysis, identifying improvements for accounting functions, and supporting the operations and sales teams. Success in this role requires a willingness to learn, accountability, accuracy, and strong financial acumen and analytical skills.Essential Job FunctionsOwn all day-to-day accounting activities including A/P, A/R, payroll oversight, general ledger, and production costing.Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments as needed.Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements including reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.Analyze variances against budget and provide clear explanations to local operations team and senior management.Support local and senior leadership with accurate, timely financial insights to inform decision-making.Coordinate with external CPA firms on audits, reviews, and tax filings.Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning.Develop internal reporting tools and dashboards to improve financial visibility.Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and organizational laws, regulations, and best practices.Provide ad hoc reporting and projections for local sales and operations teams.Required QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field of study.5+ years of accounting experience with escalating responsibilities.Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.Experience with ERP systems and their organizational impact.Preferred QualificationsProficiency with accounting software for mid to large corporations.Experience with Great Plains Dynamics.Familiarity with operations systems (manufacturing, warehouse, inventory).Experience with the manufacture and sale of consumer packaged goods.Comfortable operating in a small-company, high-growth environment.Work EnvironmentThe Controller will work in an office setting, typically during standard business hours. The position requires managing subordinate staff in their day-to-day performance and ensuring departmental goals are met.
