Plant Controller – Manufacturing Site

Location: Port Huron, MI

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Department: Finance & Accounting

Compensation: $100,000 – $150,000

Relocation: Available for the right candidate


Position Overview

The Plant Controller will oversee all financial management, reporting, and analytical functions for a manufacturing facility located in Port Huron, MI. This role is a key business partner to plant leadership and is central to driving financial accuracy, cost control, operational insight, and continuous improvement.


This position is ideal for a high-potential, rising-star finance professional—someone currently working as a Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager—who is ready to step into a broader leadership role with both strategic and hands?on responsibilities. Strong experience in standard costing is required.


The ideal candidate is motivated by working closely with plant operations, influencing performance, and building out robust financial processes in a dynamic manufacturing environment.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Reporting

  • Lead all site-level accounting, cost accounting, and FP&A activities in alignment with corporate policies and GAAP.
  • Maintain full ownership of the plant’s balance sheet, ensuring accurate account reconciliations, inventory valuation, and cash management.
  • Oversee monthly close processes, producing accurate and timely P&L statements, balance sheets, and variance analysis.


Cost Accounting & Operational Insight

  • Own and continuously improve the plant’s standard costing system, including material, labor, and overhead rate structures.
  • Partner with operations and engineering to analyze production variances, scrap, yield, and rework; translate findings into actionable cost improvement initiatives.
  • Drive meaningful financial and operational insights to support decision-making and continuous improvement across the facility.


Inventory & Controls

  • Oversee inventory accounting, cycle counts, and annual physical inventory to ensure accurate valuation and strong internal controls.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies while enhancing plant-level processes and internal controls.


Analytics, Systems, & Performance KPIs

  • Utilize ERP systems and advanced Excel tools (including Spreadsheet Server) to automate reporting and build performance dashboards.
  • Support the development of plant budgets, forecasts, and financial models.
  • Lead performance tracking through KPIs such as scrap %, yield, labor efficiency, inventory turns, and cost absorption.
  • Promote a data?driven culture by partnering closely with operations, engineering, and supply chain functions.


Leadership

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development to local accounting personnel.
  • Strengthen financial processes and partner with cross-functional teams to support operational excellence.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing finance or cost accounting.
  • Strong proficiency in standard costing, variance analysis, and absorption accounting.
  • Advanced Excel capabilities, including financial modeling and data analysis tools.
  • Experience with manufacturing ERP systems (IQMS / DELMIAWorks preferred, but not required).
  • Proven ability to support plant leadership with financial insights and operational decision-making.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex data in a clear, actionable manner.
