Location: Long Island, NY (100% in office, not hybrid/remote)


Salary: $130k - $140k base salary plus bonus and benefits


The Controller serves as a strategic financial partner to operations leadership by providing accurate financial reporting, cost analysis, and insights that support business performance and operational efficiency. This position also leads the accounting team and ensures effective financial controls, compliance with regulatory requirements, and support of external audit activities.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead and manage the monthly financial close process, including preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting packages.
  • Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and invoicing.
  • Manage and analyze the cost structure of the business including production costs, overhead allocation, inventory valuation, and job costing.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable federal and state financial regulations.
  • Develop and maintain financial forecasts, annual budgets, and variance analysis to support business planning.
  • Partner with operational leadership to evaluate production efficiency, cost management, and profitability.
  • Oversee inventory accounting processes including monitoring inventory accuracy and supporting periodic inventory audits.
  • Maintain and oversee the job cost ledger ensuring accuracy of data flow from payroll, purchase orders, receiving, and other direct costs.
  • Prepare and present financial analysis and reporting to executive leadership to support decision making.
  • Lead and coordinate the annual external financial statement audit process.
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls to protect company assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Monitor company cash flow and capital expenditures to maintain appropriate liquidity levels.
  • Identify opportunities for financial process improvements, system enhancements, and operational efficiencies.


ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff and ensure timely completion of financial activities.
  • Review and approve invoices, accruals, and journal entries related to company expenditures.
  • Coordinate with production and operations teams to ensure accurate shipment recording and invoicing.
  • Support strategic initiatives including financial system improvements, operational redesign, and financial reporting modernization.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance and financial analysis to department leaders.
  • Assist executive leadership with financial modeling and strategic planning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • CPA preferred.


EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience with increasing responsibility
  • Experience in cost accounting within manufacturing environments, preferably aerospace, defense, or regulated industries
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience managing accounting functions
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Advanced financial analysis and forecasting skills
  • Strong experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Demonstrate skills in leading organizational change, including process and system implementation and optimization
  • Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills
