Job Summary:
The Controller  plays a key role in the financial management and reporting processes of the organization. Key responsibilities include preparing the annual audit report, monthly financial reports for management, grant and foundation reporting, financial projections, and departmental and ad hoc reports as needed. This role also prepares ratio analyses and other analytical reports as required.

The position ensures the organization adheres to fiscal policies and maintains a robust system of internal controls, fostering consistent application of policies and procedures. This role also serves as a resource for faculty, students, and administrative staff on financial matters.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Controller directly supervises the Assistant Controller, Director of Student Accounts, and the Accounts Payable and Purchasing Manager. Responsibilities include providing training, daily communication, guidance, mentorship, and oversight of staff work such as bank reconciliations, accounts receivable and collections, property accounting and inventories, travel procedures and payments, student registration accounting, and billing operations.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including billing, accounts receivable (A/R), accounts payable (A/P), general ledger (GL), inventory accounting, and revenue recognition.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of budgets, financial forecasts, and variance reports.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Establish, implement, and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Conduct internal audits to assess financial status and strengthen internal controls.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Provide recommendations for procedural improvements and system enhancements.

Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior accounting or finance role, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and practices.
  • Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Sage Intacct preferred) and Google Workspace.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be local to the Central Florida area.
