Electrical Controls / Design Engineer Location: Benton Harbor, MI Compensation: $75,000 – $90,000 per year (based on experience) Overview A well-established and growing industrial manufacturer is seeking an Electrical Controls / Design Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of electrical control systems for both standard and custom-engineered solutions. This is a hands-on engineering role that plays a key part in delivering high-quality, reliable systems by translating customer requirements into practical, manufacturable designs. The position offers strong cross-functional exposure and the opportunity to contribute across the full lifecycle of engineered products. Key Responsibilities Design and develop electrical control systems, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and system layouts Interpret customer specifications and translate them into engineered solutions and production-ready designs Generate and maintain technical documentation including bills of materials (BOMs), drawings, and system manuals Collaborate with engineering, production, sales, and field teams to ensure successful project execution Program, test, and troubleshoot control systems including PLCs, HMIs, relays, and VFDs Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (UL, NEC, NFPA, etc.) Provide technical support during system build, commissioning, and field startup when required Identify opportunities for design improvements, cost reduction, and process optimization Serve as a technical resource throughout the project lifecycle from concept through delivery Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field preferred Associate’s degree with relevant experience considered Equivalent hands-on experience (8+ years) in industrial controls design accepted in lieu of degree Technical Skills Experience designing industrial electrical control systems (?600V) Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical, Inventor, or similar) Experience with PLC/HMI programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, IDEC, or similar platforms) Working knowledge of VFDs, sensors, relays, transformers, and instrumentation Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, BACnet, IO-Link) Understanding of UL508A, NEC, and related electrical standards Experience creating and managing BOMs within ERP systems Core Competencies Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines Effective communication skills across cross-functional teams Hands-on, detail-oriented approach to engineering work Team-oriented with the ability to work independently when needed Additional Information Opportunity for continued technical growth and certifications (company-supported) Ideal for engineers who enjoy both design work and hands-on system involvement Uniiited is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
