Summary

The controls engineer will design, develop, and build controls systems to automate processes and machines, perform a wide variety of control design and application duties, create drawings for engineering projects including schematics, panel layouts and other engineering drawings, and troubleshoot and repair electrical systems on equipment and facilities.


Responsibilities

Design, develop, and build controls systems to automate processes and machines. Perform a wide variety of control design and application duties. Create drawings for engineering projects including schematics, panel layouts and other engineering drawings. Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems on equipment and facilities.

  • Design, program, build, and troubleshoot control systems including PLCs, HMIs, motion controls, sensors, and drives
  • Conduct system integration, testing, and debugging to ensure functionality and reliability
  • Develop, modify, and maintain control system documentation (e.g., schematics, panel layouts, software programs)
  • Perform troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment and facility electrical systems
  • Ensure that projects are planned and executed in a timely manner and routinely report progress
  • Prepare technical manuals, work instructions, training materials, and troubleshooting guides required to support production activities
  • Support Preventative Maintenance Planning and Coordination by ensuring all PM plans and tasks are in place to ensure effective maintenance
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, codes, and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Ability to work on production machinery requires climbing bending and crouching on and around machinery.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • 7+ years proven experience in a Controls Engineering or similar role
  • Minimum of associate’s degree in Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field required
  • Demonstrated ability to write and troubleshoot PLC code and HMI programming
  • Ability to create systems designs and documentation in addition to maintaining systems developed by others
  • Ability to design and build control panels / systems
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to solve problems and communicate effectively with little guidance
  • Proficient in computer skills in Word and Excel, and CAD
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Works well in a team environment
