Description of Work
This position is located at Cabarrus Juvenile Detention Center in Concord, N. C.
Recruitment Range: $34,971 - $44,509
The responsibility for this position will be to work alongside other Cooks and Food Service Supervisor II in the preparation of a variety of foods with various cooking methods which includes steaming, baking, boiling, frying, broiling, and grilling to meet production schedule. Food modifications, such as grinding and pureeing are job responsibilities. Position will maintain food and supplies inventory daily. Position will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing workstation and equipment used.
Applicant should maintain high standards of personal cleanliness and food sanitation.
Applicant will need to be flexible with scheduled work hours.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is NC01. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Experience reading and understanding labels and recipes in order to prepare/cook food. .- Experience understanding and following oral and written instructions.
- Experience with writing clearly on various forms and reports.
- Experience with food preparation and cleaning procedures.
- Experience maintaining effective working relationships with employees and residents/customers.
Management Preferences:
- Applicant with general knowledge of federal and state laws and polices relating to the Federal Child Nutrition Program;
- Certification in food safety practices.

Education and/or experience in food preparation that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to one year of experience in a commercial and/or institutional setting.
