Key Job Elements Assist in monthly financial close including primary responsibility for certain key closing tasks, back up responsibility for other closing tasks Preparation and entry of a variety of journal entries (standard entries, accruals, etc.) Assist with preparation and analysis of financial statements and supporting reports Perform balance sheet analysis, reconcile various general ledger accounts and maintain supporting documentation for multiple legal entities Responsible for several SEC reporting requests required by Caterpillar corporate accounting Responsible for several tax information requests required by Caterpillar tax department Assist in preparation of supporting schedules required for quarterly and annual audits Solve problems and develop new methods of analysis, identify and implement process improvements Participate in and/or lead special projects as needed Support software system for financial reporting Assure compliance with U.S. GAAP, internal and SOX controls Assist in Sarbanes‑Oxley internal controls testing Other duties as assigned Education / Training Bachelor’s degree in Accounting 5 year accounting curriculum preferred; CPA/CMA or progress toward certification is a plus SAP (Systems, Applications, and Products) in accounting strongly preferred Qualifications And Experience Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP) minimum of 4 years of experience in accounting, including general ledger month end closing, preferred multi legal entities consolidation Strong problem solving skills and analytical thinking General knowledge of accounting systems and processes is a plus Strong interpersonal and communication skills Detail oriented, sense of urgency, accuracy, follow through in routine tasks Strong organization skills, able to consistently meet deadlines Ability to work independently and also contribute in a team environment Essential And Physical Activities Functions Strength – Position typically involves work in a standard office environment. Occasional standing and walking. Heavy lifting is rare but may be required. Motion – Position regularly requires standard repetitive motions and hand/eye coordination associated with office communications. May require bending, lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, crouching, walking, etc. in cases where Safety investigations require them. Vision/Hearing Requirements – Constant verbal communications, including both talking and hearing. Work Environment – Position typically involves work in a standard office environment. Position may involve occasional work in a non-temperature-controlled facility. Travel may be required 5% of the time. Emotional Demands – Responsible for audits and reporting of protected and private information. Requires interpersonal skills and communication that may be of a sensitive nature. Safety – Position is Safety Sensitive and will require the use of Personal Protective Equipment when in industrial environments. Position will require occasional visits to industrial environment, including potential for noise (85+ decibels), exposure to cold and temperature changes, exposure to hazardous materials, heavy equipment, high levels of dust, and other hazardous working conditions. May be required to remain for long periods of time in hazardous work environments to investigate and mitigate accidents/incidents.
