A DAY IN THE LIFE
Reporting to the SVP Corporate Controller and working closely with the Corporate accounting and acquisition teams, the Corporate Tax Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing Montroses tax strategy, tax planning activities, compliance and tax diligence. This is a newly created position and the first internal tax resource the Company has hired, as Montrose has historically outsourced all tax support. The Tax Manager will have full oversight of our external tax firms for various services they provide, including quarterly and annual income tax provisions, tax return filings and payments, tax strategy and planning, tax diligence for acquisitions, IRC 338(h)(10) analysis, nexus studies, and international tax strategies and compliance. This is a tremendous opportunity to advance a solid foundational tax career with new technical challenges and strategic influence.
This position can be performed in a remote or hybrid work arrangement in the US, with preference given to candidates in the Orange County, CA area. This position may require travel but can be considered de minimis to the role.
This role is expected to:
  • Partner with the Companys external tax providers to plan and execute global tax strategies and compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Companys external firm to support and manage the preparation of the quarterly and annual consolidated income tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740.
  • Coordinate with external tax providers to ensure accurate and timely completion of tax filings and payments.
  • Manage transfer pricing policies to ensure compliance with global regulations and optimize the Company's tax position. Work closely with third party providers to update the transfer pricing policies as the business evolves.
  • Perform preliminary tax research to advise the Sales and Operations teams around the potential tax consequences on international business opportunities.
  • Provide strategic guidance around the Companys overall tax footprint and help drive strategies to minimize tax expense.
  • Assist third party providers with tax due diligence for acquisitions.
  • Partner with other departments including Operations, Business Services, HR, IT, as needed for tax support and process improvements.
  • Ensure the design and operating effectiveness of our internal controls, SOX compliance and other tax policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to enhancing, implementing and/or integrating tax systems, processes, and tools, as needed.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact, where necessary, for internal and external auditors.
YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; with a CPA license
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in corporate income tax compliance, income tax provisions and strategy
  • Preferably a mix of experience in a top-ten public accounting firm and a large ($500M+) publicly traded company with global operations.
  • Hands-on experience with income tax provisions, income tax returns, quarterly estimate computations, state apportionment; with familiarity around M&A tax diligence, IRC 338(h)(10) analysis, and international tax implications with transfer pricing
  • Technical US GAAP knowledge, with a deep understanding of ASC 740 and corporate taxation
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail. Hands-on and results focused.
  • Ability to deliver thoughtful, accurate and timely work products
  • Navigate a dynamic, fast-paced, rapidly growing environment, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills (Excel, Power Point, Word)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
