THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking Corrections Community Center Monitors to provide care, custody, control, monitoring, and supervision of the re-entrant population housed at a corrections center, as well as assist staff in facilitating and monitoring the changes necessary for the offender's successful completion of the program for re-entry back into the community.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Community Center (CCC) Monitor, you will oversee and regulate the activities of re-entrants who are housed at a corrections center prior to release into the community. These duties include:

  • Observing re-entrant behavior though one-on-one and group interactions, as well as through the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) system
  • Conducting and documenting re-entrant counts, fire drills, and searches for contraband
  • Maintaining re-entrant prescription medications, security equipment, tools, toxic chemicals, and housekeeping supplies
  • Conducting new re-entrant orientation to the CCC
  • Making room assignments and assigning housekeeping duties
  • Conducting re-entrant destination checks via community and/or telephone contact
  • Writing behavior observations, issuing misconducts, and attending disciplinary hearings

  • Full-time employment
  • Community Corrections Centers are staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Beginning salary for this position is $18.38 per hour ($38,348 annually).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:


  • No previous experience or training required.

Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to work in Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania.
  • This position requires shift work. You must be willing and able to work different shifts or irregular scheduled hours.
  • This position requires you to successfully complete three (3) weeks of classroom training at the Department of Corrections Training Academy in Elizabethtown, PA. You must be willing and able to complete this training.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):
  • Two (2) years of experience performing public safety or security work. (Examples of qualifying experience include but are not limited to: public safety or security work involving protection of persons and/or property and maintaining required security through enforcement of rules, regulations and laws; public safety or security work in a correctional setting, juvenile or adult development/detention center, law enforcement entity, or military security experience).
  • One (1) year of work experience providing direction/guidance to individuals. (Examples of qualifying work experience include but are not limited to: performing as a lead worker or supervisor assigning and evaluating work tasks, providing informal counseling, or giving orders in the Military).
