THE POSITION

Are you observant and have a keen eye for detail? The Department of Corrections (DOC) is looking for a Corrections Mail Inspector to handle and process all incoming and outgoing mail for State Correctional Institute (SCI) at Waymart. If you are interested in starting a career with public safety, don't miss this opportunity!


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Mail Inspector, you will be responsible for inspecting incoming and outgoing mail to ensure safety standards are met. You will examine inmate letters and packages to prevent contraband from entering the facilities; coordinate deliveries with various institutional entities such as libraries and chapels; and deliver publications, magazines, and packages to the facility upon pickup from the post office.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Please Note: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,003.00 (before taxes).
  • This position is eligible for full benefits at age 60 or 65.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:


  • Two years of clerical experience, including one year in the field of corrections; or
  • Any combination of experience and/or training which provides the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.

Additional Requirement:
  • Possession of a valid drivers license which is not under suspension.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
  • You must pass a background investigation.
