Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking a candidate for the role of Corrections Maintenance Craftsman at Southwestern Illinois Correctional Center.
As a Corrections Maintenance Craftsman, you will maintain integrity and professionalism while carrying out your daily assignments.
This position is part of a team in the facilitys maintenance department that instructs, supervises, and assists individuals in custody in the completion of maintenance tasks throughout the facility.
This candidate will be a mentor to the individuals in custody as they teach trade techniques.

Job Responsibilities

1.
Performs maintenance work at a journeyman level in repair and upkeep of facility equipment, machinery, and grounds.

2.
Assigns and supervises individuals in custody in the operation of power-driven tools and tractors.

3.
Supervises and directs individuals in custody performing maintenance and preventative maintenance and making small repairs in shop in Maintenance Department.

4.
Maintains vehicle fleet and documentation associated with vehicle fleet maintenance.

5.
Reports infractions of rules by individuals in custody and employees and other significant matters to supervisor for action.

6.
Maintains a daily count of tools assigned.

7.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

1.
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.

2.
Requires experience necessary to qualify as a journeyman in one of the maintenance or automotive repair trades.

Preferred Qualifications

1.
Prefers at least two (2) years of experience with maintenance and/or automotive repair trades.

2.
Prefers at least two (2) years of experience with regulating a fleet of vehicles in a work environment.

3.
Prefers at least two (2) years of experience working in building trades and/or assisting tradesmen in a workplace environment.

4.
Prefers at least one (1) year of experience maintaining inventory of tools.

5.
Prefers at least one (1) year of experience in using and maintaining power-driven tools and/or tractors.

6.
Prefers at least one (1) year of experience guiding a group of individuals completing daily tasks in a workplace environment.

7.
Prefers at least one (1) year of completing requisitions for tools and/or parts for repairs in a work environment.

Conditions of Employment

1.
Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.

2.
Requires ability to pass a drug screen.
The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.

3.
Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six (6) months of employment.

4.
Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.
