Position: Corrosion Control Specialist (Job ID: 4182). Location: San Diego, CA. Remote Status: On‑Site. Pay Range: $26 - $32 per hour. Job Purpose Valkyrie Enterprises has an immediate need for multiple openings for a Corrosion Control Specialist in our San Diego location who will be a key support in performing corrosion control on naval and commercial ships. Job Description Perform corrosion control and preservation on naval vessels in tanks, compartments and hulls utilizing specialized coating applications. Prepare all types of surfaces for preservation. Complete work within the requirements of NAVSEA Standards. Remove old paint and debris from all types of substrates by scraping, chipping and sanding. Apply coatings in accordance with specifications and good marine practice. Brush and roll paint to pass all inspection processes. Perform confined space attendant duties, including establishing a communication system, identifying hazards, monitoring for heat exhaustion or disorientation, and maintaining an accurate count of personnel. Work under general supervision and perform standard tasks related to corrosion control and confined space duties. Work from drawings and technical manuals to complete semi‑routine and complex assignments. Use basic hand tools and machinery for corrosion and coating applications. Perform multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and/or trade school with work experience. Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills. Effective communication and leadership abilities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Previous experience in surface preparation or a related field. Knowledge of painting techniques and materials. Experience in painting or a related field. Knowledge of different types of paint and their applications. Desired Qualifications High school education or trade school with at least 4 years of industrial experience. Two years of experience in corrosion control or related painting field. Knowledge of OSHA standards 29 CFR 1910, 1915, 1923. Knowledge of NAVSEA STD Items 009‑32, 009‑74, SSPC‑1. Ability to obtain a passport. Security Requirements Must obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance to access military facilities, naval shipyards and other authorized installations. Must have a REAL ID (must be obtained before start date). Travel Requirements Moderate travel required: 50% – 75%. If the position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities, the candidate must obtain and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as a REAL ID. More information regarding REAL ID can be found: Physical Requirements Repetitive motion, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, picking, grasping, talking, hearing, and visual acuity. Exposure to extreme cold/heat, noise, vibration, atmospheric conditions, and narrow aisles that may cause claustrophobia. Use of protective clothing, face shields, or goggles when welding, cutting, or working with molten metal.
