JOB DESCRIPTION:

Nature of Work

Under the general supervision of the Director of Museums, the Cultural Program Coordinator/Exhibitions Coordinator will perform exhibit management and operations for the West Virginia State Museum, Culture Center, and Capitol. Works with the Museums Director to utilize the collection in compliance with museum guidelines concerning the handling of artifacts and fine art. When necessary, conceptualizes, makes drawings, and presents designs. Position coordinates the placement of all exhibit text, graphics, and lighting for the final presentation of the exhibit. Assists with the museum loan program particularly as it relates to government offices and incoming loans. Recommends and schedules judges for juried exhibitions. Accepts submitted works of art, completes documentation, works with artists and maintains the artist register. Maintains and organizes exhibit related material for awards, catalogues, exhibition prospectus, reports, and press releases. Maintains contact with West Virginia art teachers on all scholastic levels. Knowledge of care, handling of art/artifacts as well as ADA requirements. During preparation/installation of exhibits, this position will be responsible for overseeing the work of other staff as a lead worker. Position performs other duties as assigned.

Training: A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

Substitution: Experience directly related to the area of assignment may be substituted for the required training a year-for-year basis.

Experience: Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience related to the area of assignment.
