Position Overview:

The Custodial Lead is responsible for coordinating and performing cleaning and sanitation duties throughout an industrial manufacturing facility. This position ensures that all areas—including production spaces, offices, restrooms, and common areas—are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and safety. The Custodial Lead works alongside the custodial team, providing daily direction, quality checks, and support to ensure compliance with facility and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and support a team of custodians performing cleaning and sanitation tasks throughout the facility.

• Assign daily cleaning duties and inspect work to ensure consistent quality and safety compliance.

• Maintain cleaning schedules for production areas, restrooms, breakrooms, and office spaces.

• Operate and maintain industrial cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers, sweepers, and vacuums.

• Ensure proper use, storage, and inventory of cleaning supplies and chemicals.

• Coordinate waste and recycling collection, including hazardous material disposal when required.

• Communicate with Facilities Management regarding supply needs, maintenance issues, and safety concerns.

• Train new custodial staff on cleaning techniques, PPE use, and safety protocols.

• Support continuous improvement by identifying and implementing efficiency and quality improvements.

• Ensure adherence to OSHA safety standards and facility-specific housekeeping policies.

• Respond promptly to emergency cleanups such as spills or equipment leaks.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• 3+ years of custodial, janitorial, or housekeeping experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

• 1+ year of leadership or team lead experience preferred.

• Strong knowledge of industrial cleaning methods, safety practices, and chemical handling.

• Ability to operate and maintain industrial cleaning equipment.

• Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand/walk for extended periods, and work in varying environmental conditions.

Preferred Skills:

• Familiarity with 5S, Lean, or other manufacturing housekeeping programs.

• Experience with computerized maintenance or cleaning management systems.

• Forklift or scissor lift certification a plus.

Work Environment:

This position is based in a large industrial manufacturing facility. The work involves exposure to noise, dust, moving machinery, and temperature fluctuations. Proper PPE is provided and must be worn at all times.
