Position Title: Custodian
Department: Facilities
Reports to: Director of Facilities
Pay Class: Full-time Regular
FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Position Summary
Custodians perform daily routines and periodic scheduled tasks as well as special projects. They are critical to the Science Center; they are the front line of our guest experience, being ambassadors for our guests while cleaning and creating a welcoming environment in our facilities and grounds.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Vacuum, sweep, mop, clean carpet (using both powered and hand vacuums and or small extractors) and carpet extraction/buffing
  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms and restock supplies
  • Empty all trash cans and replace liners
  • Handle recycling material
  • Must wash, clean and dust walls, railing, glass and stainless steel
  • Maintain supplies and equipment in clean and operable condition within individual service closet
  • Carry out periodic special cleaning functions
  • Assist in updating the maintenance log on a timely basis with items for Facilities staff to repair or replace.
  • Interact and communicate as needed with other department staff and guests
  • Adhere to, participate in and promote Pacific Science Center employment policies, operating principles, events and culture
  • Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
  • Knowledge of work safety protocols and experience with proper use of:
  • Cleaning chemicals
  • Custodial equipment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Computing skills, such as maintaining a log or responding to electronic communications
  • Operating various custodial equipment including:
  • Riding sweepers
  • Riding extractors
  • Buffers
  • Walk-behind vacuums, sweepers, and hand vacuums
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Flexibility in work schedule on occasion to meet operational needs
Qualifications
Required
  • At least 1 year of custodial/housekeeping experience
  • Previous experience working in a team-oriented setting
  • Experience with ride on vacuum machines, scrubbers, and buffing machines preferred
  • This position requires at least one weekend day as part of a regular schedule
This position description generally describes the principal functions of the position and the level of knowledge and skills typically required. It does not constitute an employment agreement between the employer and the employee, and it is subject to change as the needs of the employer and the requirements of the job change.

Compensation
Pay is based on several factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and years of experience.
Starting Base Salary Range: $20.00-$20.50/hour
In addition to base salary, regular employees working 40 hrs/week can expect the following benefits:
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, basic life insurance, and disability insurance
  • 4 weeks of vacation, 12 floating holidays, and sick pay
  • 403(b) Retirement Savings
