Position Concept
The Data and Analytics Architect is responsible for the “back‑end” components of the organization’s BIA environment from standards, architecture, and design perspectives. The role oversees implementation and support for data movement and engineering processes required to populate custom‑built analytic data structures (e.g., staging areas, data warehouse, data marts) and their design. It also handles strategy for federation of custom‑built data architecture with vendor‑provided solutions, provides technical oversight, and ensures quality of work by data analysts and engineers. The position requires expertise in data integration and cleansing tools on SAP and Azure platforms, deploying best practices and ensuring the analytic data architecture enables required applications and follows standards in modelling, metadata, integration, and master data management.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Define and evolve the data architecture in alignment with enterprise standards to support reporting, OLAP, dashboards, data mining, and statistical analysis. Ensure scalability, security, reliability, and flexibility. Determine appropriate deployment environment (cloud or on‑premise). (25%)
Establish best practices for source data analysis, ETL design and documentation, data federation across platforms, business rule placement, ETL testing and release management, database‑level security, and data masking, anonymization, and tokenization. (15%)
Translate user requirements into data models and applications by guiding analysts, advising ETL developers, and designing logical and physical analytic data structures. Deploy metadata tools, implement security, collaborate on support environments, oversee operations and performance monitoring with DBAs. (15%)
Ensure quality of data models and ETL deliverables by managing QA functions including unit, system, stress testing and peer reviews. (15%)
Provide technical oversight, coaching, and mentoring to ETL developers and data analysts. (15%)
Serve as a technical SME to consult on BIA‑related initiatives. (15%)

Relationships
Internal: stakeholders of the BIA solution.
External: SAP, Microsoft, Oracle, consultants (system integrators, offshore teams), contractors, customers, vendors.
Qualifications
Education – Required: Bachelor’s degree in Information/Computer Science, Data/Information Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems, or related discipline.
Education – Preferred: At least one professional certification in a job‑related discipline.
Direct Experience – Required: 7 years of direct work performing duties of this position or closely related duties.
Hands‑on experience with platforms: SAP BW4/HANA, HANA Enterprise, SQL Server, Oracle, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Power BI, etc.
Preferred: Gas or Electric utility experience; experience in large public or private‑sector organizations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Deep knowledge and experience with SAP and Microsoft Azure suites (ETL, service bus and data quality components) and understanding of SAP HANA, SQL Server, Oracle, Azure, Power BI platforms and ability to provide thought leadership.
Deep knowledge and experience establishing ETL application design standards and implementing such applications.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of Electric Grid Solutions (ADMS, EMS, AMI/MDM, Intergraph GIS).
Foundational knowledge of Data Science, AI (Machine Learning), Blockchain.
Ability to assess emerging business & regulatory changes and articulate positive impacts for the company.
