Role: Data Center Project Manager New builds

Location: Ashburn, VA 3 days/week onsite (Local candidate only)

Duration: Contract

JD:

  • Enterprise Data Center run the Project Management area of data center, refresh, mostly builds, NA, SA, EMEA - data center builds 8 direct reports and under those dozens of contractors, job Ashburn, VA some travel to Manassas, VA - for 1st 3 months will be 5 days/week onsite (some flex in the future) open to 1-2 days remote in the future
  • Local candidates only
  • Supervising construction, meeting with vendors, Project Manager soup to nuts a lot of interacting with construction folks and Sr management folks from Morgan
  • Building data centers site selections of where to build data center and work with internal departments to determine what to put in, work with legal/sourcing to finalize leases, design space and work with design shops externally, hire general contractors to do what they design , RFP process for them, check to be sure all done on schedule, weekly status meeting, build it, rack it, stack it, patches, everything and go into production and move to next project
  • Ton of work to do, if doing well can stay as long as they want
  • Role will have budget tracking and make sure under budget and on schedule
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Visio for design work, PowerPoint, Project), MS Teams, SharePoint for data repository
  • Financial industry experience a plus, not required
  • Project Management, Construction skills, manage large construction efforts (not building a dam or digging holes) need building high rises or data center a lot of office interaction they do and will go to construction sites
  • Vital part of role is construction, portion of role, understand a little about construction, reporting to MD/EE, meeting with Telco experts in E&S team as to work they see as need for future, what need to build and what kind of kit are they looking for everyone talking about deploying AI, if running 10K cabinets now, need technical experience and awareness to do it - familiarity with networking, stacking/racking and understand what they want to deploy (when/where)
  • Bachelor required, if build data center for 10+ years Associate and PMP would be considered
  • Not an operational role, Project Management, Data Center experience (run project in data center), high profile, big budget projects
  • Interview Process: 2 - 3 Video Interviews: 1st interview: 30-minute Video with manager, 2nd with team and may be a 3rd interview face to face in Ashburn/Manassas, VA
  • Monday Friday 9:00 am 5:00 pm, somewhat flexible schedule, no weekends typically, potential travel in the future to Somerset, NJ OR Alpharetta, CA, etc. not a lot of travel 1-2 times/year

Description:

  • This position will be part of the Data Center team for a respectable financial institution.
  • The position will report to the VP of the Data Center Project Management team and will have responsibility for managing one or more data center related projects.
  • The majority of any project work will involve internal MS coordination between Network; Enterprise Computing, and IT on the build-out; plus managing "white-space" build-out activities such as the rack /stack of equipment; network patching; equipment
  • Responsible for developing high level and low-level project plans and budgets for data center projects and/or data center components
  • Responsible for the management, coordination, and execution of all assigned tasks and resources.
  • Responsible for tailoring existing best practices for project and operational management to suit the needs of this project.
  • Responsible for all communication on the status of the project to the rest of the IT project team, IT departments.
  • Responsible for all coordinating all activities of the projects between these same parties as well as external resources such as the Engineering Design Team, the General Contractor, etc.
  • Work with internal Sourcing and legal teams to negotiate lease terms.
  • Oversee and execute RFP process for securing new vendors to execute new projects.
  • Manage construction of newly built out sites either directly or through a general contractor.
  • Vendor management is a requirement.
  • Responsible for development and timely delivery of all IT related deliverables.
  • Responsible for maintaining the project SharePoint site for the project documentation and information modifying the design and function of the site as required.
  • Local travel will be required to the local office/data center regularly. On-site presence is required most of the time.
  • Potential out of area travel may be required.
  • Basic knowledge of Data Center Technology and Service Management.
  • Working background in Structured Cabling Systems
  • Understanding of Data Center best practices
  • Logistics
