The purpose of the positon is to maintain server resources necessary to run a datacenter within a higher education environment; provides leadership in designing, implementing and maintaining SAN / NAS , VMware ESX , and other servers. Direct the strategic and day-to-day operations of the University’s Data Center and associated systems. Responsible for capacity planning, performance and power audits of multiple servers. Manage multiple complex projects and provide guidance to other Systems team members. Recommend vendor products and services; prepare bid specifications; provide technical advice and assistance in the negotiation of contracts and service level agreements. Assist in developing strategies to protect the college institution against unplanned outages using redundancy, high availability, clustering and fail-over. Work within IS & IT to facilitate protect the college institution with the data center including building test and production environment for applications and operating systems as needed. Work with the Systems team to build, test and deploy applications and operating systems to the community. Design, implement and maintain an active backup and disaster recovery strategy. Stay abreast of new technologies and make recommendations to the Chief Information Officer and other members of IT&S. Participate in In-Service training sessions with Information Services both as a presenter and an attendee. Log calls for assistance with the Help Desk; respond in a timely manner to forwarded Help Desk calls. Assist various members of the staff with troubleshooting on an as needed basis. Provide leadership, evaluate, and supervise direct reports in performing duties as charged. Provide 24×7 emergency on-call service on a rotating basis. Assist with campus events as needed. Additional Duties Essential Job Duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all inclusive. There will be other duties as assigned. The individual holding this position will serve as a representative of the University and, as such, shall promote a positive impression by demonstrating a collegial and professional customer-service approach at all times. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Advanced knowledge of SAN / NAS , VMware ESX , and other servers; Knowledge of working LDAP , Network and Communications and software engineering concepts; Ability to think critically and solve problems; Strong interpersonal skills including excellent oral and written communication skills; Ability to manage 4-5 projects simultaneously in high stress environment; Ability to complete projects in an efficient and effective manner; High level of organizational skills with a strong attention to detail; Ability to work nights and weekends on occasion; General knowledge of University organization, policies, and procedures; Ability to supervise and manage the work of others. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, related field, or other Bachelor’s degree with significant programming experience. Education substituted for experience? No This positions requires: Minimum 3 years working with ESX , VMWare, NetApp Filer, Dell EMC or other SAN Technology and significant experience with the capacity planning, disaster recovery Unix, Linux, and Windows Server. Experience substituted for education? No Licenses, Certification or Registrations None Travel Requirements Light Travel Physical Requirements The physical activities required for this position involve: Standing: Under 1/3 of the time; walking: Under 1/3 of the time; sitting: Over 2/3 of the time; using hands: Over 2/3 of the time; reaching with hands and arms: Over 1/3 of the time; climbing or balancing: Under 1/3 of the time; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling: Under 1/3 of the time; talking or hearing: Over 2/3 of the time. This position requires lifting: Up to 50 pounds: Over 2/3 of the time; Up to 20 pounds: Over 1/3 of the time; Up to 50 pounds: Under 1/3 of the time.
