Data Scientist As a Data Scientist, you will perform the following duties: Participate as a weather and ocean subject matter expert to elaborate, track, and disseminate requirements for user needs, and research, observation, and service needs related to the development of new decision support products and services for decision makers. Support efforts across National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Line Offices, Laboratories, and Programs to improve operational service provision, research transition, and integration of weather and ocean data and information to support weather and ocean user decision making. Analyze complex weather and ocean datasets (e.g. geospatial, time series) to develop models, predictions, and insights in support of program and user needs using desktop based statistical software (e.g. R, Python, ArcGIS Pro) and web-based platforms (e.g. Esri Notebooks, ArcGIS Online, Jupyter Notebooks, Google Earth Engine). Design and develop data management processes that use interoperable scientific data formats (e.g. NetCDF) and commonly used data services (e.g. ERDDAP). Assist in efforts to develop engaging and intuitive visualizations of weather and ocean data and analyze using modern interactive and web-based approaches (e.g. Leaflet, R Shiny, Plotly Dash, and other software).
