Job Summary The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Database Engineer I on the Dahlonega Campus. This position supports database administration, consulting, some programming, and technical support for the use of Microsoft SQL Server and the university’s database environment. The engineer assists with performing backup and recovery, performance monitoring, and fine‑tuning performance. The role evaluates hardware and software requirements and supports the integration of third‑party providers’ products. The engineer supports new and current data integrations between the university’s student information systems and other selected and third‑party applications purchased to provide additional capability, efficiency, and productivity to university personnel and creates documentation associated with these projects. Responsibilities Creates, configures, and maintains databases in Microsoft SQL Server in order to support development of systems used by university personnel and third‑party applications requiring SQL Server. Assists with database administration for the MySQL environment. Maintains and optimizes performance in these environments. Develops integration solutions with 3rd party applications through available API's and database exports, as well as ad‑hoc database reporting as required. Consults with IT, business, and academic units to support the creation of locally developed and third‑party database applications. Gather, write and maintain documentation on database applications and integrations. Participation on UNG committees and working groups. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Must have strong oral and written communication skills. Interpersonal and teamwork skills required. Ability to multi‑task, manage workload, and meet deadlines required. Required Qualifications High School diploma or GED required. At least one year of IT experience required. Preferred Qualifications ITIL certification preferred. Lean certification preferred. Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PL/SQL Developer, SQL Navigator, Shell scripting and/or Linux preferred. Experience with Ellucian Banner preferred.
