Lead business services for one of the most important scientific organizations in the world! Los Alamos National Laboratory has a rare opportunity for an exceptional Associate Laboratory Director to oversee our Business Management Directorate, including a staff of approximately 1,600 employees, students, and contractors.
The Associate Laboratory Director for Business Management serves as a member of the Laboratory's executive management team and drives seamless business solutions with timely, technology-driven, and performance-based results through a talented team and creativity focused on superior service.


Reporting to the Deputy Laboratory Director for Operations, the Associate Laboratory Director for Business Management is directly responsible for seven major divisions.
Important capabilities within the Directorate include accounting, finance, procurement, information technology, and cyber security.
Key positions reporting to the Associate Laboratory Director include the Laboratory's Chief Financial Officer, Controller, Chief Information Officer, Procurement Director, and Chief Information Security Officer.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Leadership
Successful experience as a senior leader of a large, complex business organization delivering on a broad portfolio of significant fiscal and programmatic responsibilities, including demonstrated experience serving as a member of a senior leadership team and managing the strategic planning and execution of major business programs, implementing cultural change initiatives, and driving organizational learning and continuous improvement.


Business Capabilities
Expert working knowledge and demonstrated advanced experience in multiple areas associated with the position which may include any of the following: Accounting, finance, payroll, taxation, procurement, property management, document control, records management, cyber security, business-related software development, network engineering, and IT service delivery.


Financial Accountability
Demonstrated experience managing budgeting and financial evaluations and forecasts for a large and complex organization, including budgeting systems formulation and execution of requirements, maintaining a transparent financial cost reporting system, and providing detailed and accurate cost reports.


Compliance and Security
Demonstrated experience developing and implementing plans or programs to meet or exceed business-related laws, regulations, performance measures, or contractual requirements within a highly sensitive or classified environment, including experience certifying and ensuring the security of large-scale business information systems and integrating and implementing tenets of multiple management systems such as safety, security, and conduct of operations.


Collaboration and Organizational Development
Demonstrated ability to build and grow both internal and external relationships with a variety of senior-level managers, direct reports and stakeholders, including attracting, developing, mentoring, and retaining talent to sustain organizational capability and steward an engaged and inclusive culture.


Education and Years of Relevant Experience
Requires a master's degree in a related business discipline and a minimum fifteen years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens.
Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.


  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.


Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.


Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program.
You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th.
The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
