Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Deputy Project Manager I to support the successful execution of complex engineering and technical projects. This role works closely with the Project Manager and cross-functional teams to coordinate project activities, manage documentation, track schedules, and support vendor and customer communications.
This position is an entry‑level role within the Deputy Project Manager career path, offering an excellent opportunity for an engineering professional to transition into project leadership responsibilities. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical foundation, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
The Deputy Project Manager I plays a critical role in ensuring projects remain aligned with contractual, technical, and financial objectives, while supporting the delivery of high-quality solutions to customers.
Military experience equivalency may substitute for some requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Project Manager in day-to-day project execution and coordination of internal teams
Track project progress and assist in maintaining schedules, milestones, and deliverables
Coordinate cross‑functional teams including engineering, operations, procurement, and quality
Assist with risk identification and support development of mitigation and contingency plans
Support vendor management activities including production schedules, delivery tracking, and issue resolution
Coordinate communication between internal teams, customers, and suppliers
Assist in monitoring vendor performance and supporting resolution of project‑related challenges
Maintain project documentation including meeting minutes, correspondence, reports, and tracking logs
Track action items, deliverables, and project status updates
Assist with preparation of project reports, presentations, and customer communications
Support contract and project documentation management to ensure compliance
Monitor project schedules, milestones, and key deliverables
Assist in identifying project risks and tracking mitigation strategies
Support planning and execution of project reviews and status meetings
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Systems Engineering
Minimum 5 years of experience in project management, project engineering, or project administration
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience coordinating meetings and managing project documentation
Proficiency with project tracking tools and computer systems
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced technical environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the rail industry or related transportation, infrastructure, or manufacturing environments
Mechanical, electrical, or systems design experience
Experience working with engineering-driven or technical projects
Familiarity with project lifecycle management and engineering development processes
