Design Engineer: Freeport, Illinois
We are seeking a highly motivated Design Engineer to join our client’s team. As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and drafting drawings of die layouts, reviewing specifications, and defining manufacturing processes to form complete forgings. You will collaborate with customers, vendors, and team members to ensure the successful execution of projects. If you have a passion for design, problem-solving skills, and a keen eye for detail, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design tooling to meet product specifications
  • Perform tool qualification and assessment
  • Participate in design reviews
  • Implement cost-effective tool design changes
  • Collaborate with team members during tool qualification, sampling, and final part approval
  • Develop manufacturing processes by studying product requirements
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing tooling and processes
  • Prepare estimates of new forging requirements
  • Develop and maintain design standards
  • Maintain complete project records
  • Ensure designs meet customer specifications and expectations
  • Assist in design review and continuous improvement meetings
  • Draft drawings of die layouts as necessary
  • Analyze drawings and design data of parts to determine material requirements
  • Determine number of dies and types of die sets required to produce complete part
  • Create drawings, documentation, and CAD models of forgings
  • Supervise coordination of resources
  • Troubleshoot technical problems and provide assistance to Tool & Die employees
  • Consult with customers, vendors, and others to resolve issues
  • Actively participate in efforts to establish a safe and healthy work environment
Skills & Experience:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience, required
  • Experience: 0-3 years of experience in mechanical or manufacturing engineering
  • Knowledge: Background in physics, mechanics, and tolerances, strongly preferred
  • Software: Proficiency in CAD, PRO-E, and SolidWorks required
