Job Description

Springfield is accepting applications for a Design Engineer assigned to our Engineering Department to support research and development (R&D).


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


• Accountable for completing assigned project work.

• Works with R&D gunsmiths to document technical data to support creative process and establish department records of practical design.

• Calculates dimensions, sketches ideas, designs mockups, and creates CAD Files.

• Works with purchasing and internal R&D to implement prototyping strategies to move design to product.

• Ensures accuracy of product spec sheets through participation in review processes.

• Utilizes company document control practices and improves utility.

• Works intra-departmentally to facilitate manufacturing process.

• Manages product data for new parts.

• Supports new product development planning and generates CAD as directed.

• Conducts design reviews on new products.

• Evaluates Intellectual Property (IP) considerations on new products.

• Participates in testing protocols as required.

• Develops DFMEAs as directed.

• Coordinates reverse engineering as necessary.

• Cognizant of government regulations that effect the design and distribution of new product as they impact design and production.


Requirements:


Requires a Mechanical Engineering degree from an accredited institution. Demonstrated work history includes proficiency and experience with firearms in addition to organizational aptitude and engineering discipline.


Required skills include:


• Strong understanding of SOLIDWORKS as its usage for planning, ideation, modeling, assessment, prototyping, and project management.

• Metrology and metrology equipment expertise required to accomplish descriptive, diagnostic, and predictive measuring.

• Strong and effective analytical, communication and technical skills.

• Ability to interpret data, learn, adapt, and accommodate change.

• Ability to work individually with minimal supervision


Must be knowledgeable of safety regulations pertaining to the handling and use of firearms. This position is trusted to handle and protect company-private information: discretion, integrity, and ethics nonnegotiable.
