Work Arrangement This is a full-time, onsite position as part of our Internship Program. This position performs functions or is immediately available to perform functions that are considered safety sensitive for the purpose of maintenance or preventive maintenance as defined by 14 CFR 121. Therefore, employment and continued employment with the company is conditioned upon full compliance with the company’s Antidrug and Alcohol Misuse Prevention Program as required by 14 CFR Part 120, 135, 145 and 49 CFR Part 40. Job Overview The Design Engineering Intern at AEVEX Aerospace supports the design team involved in aircraft structural and system modifications. Assignments may involve introductory use of 3D CAD design software or FEMAP/NASTRAN FEM software. Specific design tasks will vary, and may involve document control, design and completion of engineering drawings, review of aircraft components and sub‑systems, payload integration design, aircraft weight & balance assessment, basic composite tooling design, airframe and component surveying for reverse engineering, ground support equipment design and/or analysis, specification conformance and documentation. The Design Engineering Intern works under the guidance of experienced aerospace engineers in AEVEX’s Engineering Department. The AEVEX Internship Program gives individuals who are early in their career the opportunity to gain valuable learning opportunities while discussing goals, evaluating performance and receiving regular feedback. Essential Functions Creates engineering drawings for aircraft modifications and/or repairs Completes models and drawings using Catia design software Hand sketches design configurations to articulate concepts Works closely with other departments to clarify engineering drawing/document requirements Conducts liaison engineering as needed Performs survey measurement of existing airframe structure for reverse engineering purposes Completes structural analysis for aircraft modification and repairs Communicates with stress analysts and airframe mechanics to complete repair drawings Collaborates with senior designers and draftsmen to complete engineering drawing packages Performs other related duties as assigned Standard Essential Functions Regular and reliable attendance on a full time basis [or in accordance with posted schedule]. Responsible for exhibiting professional behavior with both internal and external business associates that reflects positively on the company and is consistent with the company's policies and practices. Embodies AEVEX’s cultural values and aligns daily actions with department goals and company culture. Qualifications Strong organizational and communications skills, verbal and written Strong attention to detail and creative problem solving skills Ability to read and interpret technical data, repair drawings and/or engineering drawings Experience in MS Office Suite and strong computer skills for report writing and analysis preparation Education / Certifications Current enrollment in a bachelors program at an accredited university in the field of Mechanical, Aeronautical and/or Aerospace Engineering Experience No prior experience necessary. Prior internship activities in the aerospace industry a plus Physical Requirements Frequently required repetitive movements of wrists, hands, and/or fingers Constantly required to sit, and to reach to use computers and other office equipment Occasionally experience a high level of noise, adverse weather or temperature conditions Security Clearance Not Applicable Salary Range $20—$25 USD About AEVEX AEVEX, headquartered in Solana Beach, California, supports the U.S. national security mission and partner nation needs around the world by providing full-spectrum aviation, remote sensing, and analysis solutions.
