JOB REQUIREMENTS SCOPE OF ROLE: The Design Engineering Manager is responsible for ensuring overall product design processes, objectives and deliverables, including design requirements, workflows, planning, implementation, scheduling, regulatory oversight, and documentation for new or existing product design and automation. This position coordinates with other departments to ensure products are designed consistent with requirements, maintain the highest level of quality, and can be produced at the lowest possible cost. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES High Degree of Welding Engineering Skills Provides vision and leadership for existing and emerging product and application technologies through understanding of customer and business needs. Manages a team of Engineers and technical staff. Product Development: leads the product development process from concept to production, including brainstorming, conceptualization, design, prototyping, testing, and finalization. Provides technical leadership and expertise to the design team, guiding them in solving complex engineering problems and making design decisions. Process Optimization: analyzes and optimizes design processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality. Quality Assurance: ensures designs meet quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations, implementing quality control measures throughout the design process. Resource Allocation: allocates resources such as manpower, materials, and equipment effectively to meet production targets while minimizing waste. Team Management: leads and supervises a team of design engineers and technicians, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure smooth operations. Innovation and Continuous Improvement: encourages innovation and creativity within the design team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, staying updated on industry trends and emerging technologies. Cross‑Functional Collaboration: collaborates with departments such as manufacturing, quality assurance, marketing, and sales to ensure design specifications meet stakeholder needs and are feasible for production. Risk Management: identifies potential risks and challenges in the design process and implements strategies to mitigate them, such as conducting thorough design reviews and testing. Supplier and Vendor Management: collaborates with external suppliers and vendors for components, materials, or services related to design to ensure timely delivery and quality standards are met. Cost Management: collaborates with the Finance Department to develop and manage budgets for design projects and identifies opportunities to reduce costs without compromising on quality or performance. Documentation and Reporting: ensures design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and technical reports, are accurately maintained and updated, and provides regular progress reports to senior management. Regulatory Compliance: ensures compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards, such as DOT, ASME, and ISO certifications. New Product Introduction: supports the introduction of new products into production, including process validation, capacity planning, and production ramp‑up. Product Lifecycle Management: manages the entire lifecycle of products from initial design through to end‑of‑life, including product updates, revisions, and obsolescence management. Manages on‑time delivery of designs, drawings, and instructions to support BOM and items released to meet production schedule needs. Drives cost‑effective and quality results, develops best practices for designs and products, directs multiple concurrent engineering projects, and ensures timely completion of objectives. Acts as a consultant, negotiates with clients to finalize engineering project specifications, presents engineering plans and progress status updates. Oversees manufacturing support designs and subsequent product and process changes; identifies requirements for enhancements and performs administrative tasks such as approving proposals and expenditures, enforcing policies, hiring and firing engineers. Establishes timeframes for engineering projects, meets with engineering staff regularly, supervises and reviews the work of direct reports. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, welding, manufacturing engineering or equivalent. Demonstrated experience in product development, design, manufacturing, or related field with a minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience and project management expertise. High degree of welding experience with sheet metal, weldments, and large assemblies with a minimum of 10 years. Experience on sheet metal, welding and required industries experience. ERP systems. Use computer‑aided design (CAD) software to create drawings for welding projects. CWI preferred. Knowledge of ASME pressure vessels and non‑code vessels is required. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to communicate with upper management, customers and engineering team. Strong awareness of customer expectations. Solid understanding of mechanical engineering issues and needs. Strong leadership and communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to multitask and create, maintain, and manage multiple project schedules according to deadlines. Working knowledge of CAD software; experience with Inventor is a plus. Innovative, able to think “outside of the box” to solve complex issues. Proficiency in planning and control of work.
