Reporting to the Engeneering Lead, the Designer Technician/ Drafter will be responsible for preparing technical drawings as directed by the Project Engineer and Design team.

The position will be based out of our Toronto Office.

Requirements

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Draft drawings using computer-aided design and drafting (CADD, MicroStation) software
  • Work from rough sketches and specifications created by engineers and technologists
  • Work individually and with the team to complete transmission and distribution layouts
  • Ability to follow instructions, organize and prioritize work to meet scheduled deadlines
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Prepare electrical drafting of grounding layouts, electrical equipment, schematics, single line diagrams, civil/structural layouts and detail drawings
  • Creating Bill of Materials and Labor Estimates
  • Assist Project Manager and Engineering Lead with scheduling, filing drawings and documents
  • Perform general duties as required such as printing/plotting, transmittal preparation, submitting drawings and completing mark ups in a timely manner
  • Build and put together all the necessary paperwork to package design folders
  • Experience with the production and checking of electrical drawing packages from concept to completion
  • Highly motivated team player with excellent communication skills
  • Perform Field visits as requested and required


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Post-Secondary education in a related field
  • 2-5 years of working experience in design drafting with AutoCAD & MicroStation
  • Experience in utility design overhead pole line, underground duct structure and residential subdivisions
  • Good understanding of distribution construction standards
  • Ability to work effectively with team members
  • Strong attention to detail, able to self-check and produce accurate drawings
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment
  • Results-oriented individual with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and time lines
  • People-oriented with an ability to establish a high degree of credibility with staff member and client representatives
  • Apply knowledge of design principle and practices in broad areas of utility-based projects
  • This is a work from office role
